Explore the life and times of Sir Hubert Wilkins

Start with these:

True Adventure Thrills

For the first time, Sir Hubert Wilkins’s 56 episode outline for a radio series is now available for purchase. The series may never have been produced but, thanks to a faithful and arduous transcription over the past couple of years, all his ripping yarns will now survive.

Starting with stowing away from Adelaide, to fighting off a polar bear, flying over enemy lines in a balloon to finally how Eielson and he landed at the end of their epic trans-Arctic flight, it is all there. Pure Wilkins by Wilkins.

True Adventure Thrills now available in limited edition hardback and as an e-book.

This website is dedicated to honour the life and work of Sir Hubert Wilkins and to help ensure his important story continues to be told.

We believe that there can be no greater service to Sir Hubert’s legacy than to provide a comprehensive one-stop service for those fascinated by the life of this great Australian and citizen of the world. This will enable greater ease for people everywhere, and hopefully for generations to come, to find and discover more about him and produce new reflections on his extraordinary career.

About us

Wilkinstheadventurer.com.au has been formed by Peter Maddern, an Adelaide, South Australian based writer with an interest in photography. From having first come across the story of George Hubert Wilkins around three years ago, he was surprised there was no one website dedicated to bringing the whole Wilkins story to the world, especially his extraordinary photographic and film work.

Having researched and then travelled widely around the world, fortunately pre-pandemic, Peter has now assembled probably the largest curated collection of the photos and films by Wilkins and has started to release some projects based on them. The first was his documentary, The Eye of Wilkins, which premiered at this year’s Adelaide Fringe to sell-out audiences. Soon, his photographic retrospective of Sir Hubert’s work, also titled The Eye of Wilkins, will be published.

Now www.wilkinstheadventurer.com.au has been released not only to promote those works but to fulfil his desire to create a place where all those across the world with an interest in the important Wilkins story can come to not only see but be educated and inspired by his work and hopefully also contribute to it.
